Rollin’ with Popiah

Popiah

Evolution of Popiah

Popiah, a popular and flavourful dish, has become a symbol of Singapore's culinary environment. Popiah, with its thin pancake wrapper stuffed with a range of ingredients, has captured the hearts and taste buds of both locals and visitors. It is filled with a mixture of sautéed vegetables and beef. When deep fried, the crispy roll is more popularly known as a spring roll, but if the wrapper remains intact, it is known as popiah. A dish of Southeastern Chinese heritage, started in Fujian province, is typically eaten in the spring, when there is an abundance of veggies.
